Art Deco Modernist Chrome Travel Alarm Clock, C1930

1920 - 1940
For Sale by Art Deco World
Description

Offered for your consideration is this extremely good quality Art Deco German Alarm travel clock with a superb movement in excellent condition working order alarm working as well having been recently and professionally serviced by an horologist. We believe the clock is most likely by Junghans but we can only attribute it as it's not marked. The curved round shouldered clock case is in highly polished chrome offering an almost mirror finish with raised numerals in a gold tone. Comes with it's original silk lined leather case. This is a really classy clock, deceptively heavy for it's size and would of been expensive to purchase in it's day. No makers mark but DPRA a to the back. The "DRP" refers to a German patent, and is usually followed by a patent number. Here "DRPa," the "a" an abbreviation for "angemeldet," meaning "applied for." FREE UK DELIVERY.

Case size:110mm x 80mm x 45mm .

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Art Deco modernist clocks from the 1930s are recognised by clean geometric silhouettes, streamlined metal casings, and stylized typography. Movements from this period reflected the Machine Age, prioritizing sleek metallic surfaces like chrome alongside bold numerals.

Travel clocks from the 1930s typically featured chromium-plated brass or steel casings paired with glass covers and mechanical clockwork movements. Accents were often created using contrasting gilt metal, enamel, or bakelite elements.

Authentic pieces generally exhibit mechanical winding movements rather than quartz, weight appropriate to solid metal construction, and characteristic typography from the interwar era. Signs of gentle wear, minor surface tarnish, and era-appropriate mechanical mechanisms also indicate age.

An Art Deco chrome clock serves as a refined focal point on a bedside table, executive office desk, or dark wooden sideboard. Its reflective metallic finish provides visual contrast against textured wallpapers or muted contemporary backdrops.

Dust surfaces regularly with a soft, dry microfibre cloth to remove fingerprints and prevent grime buildup. Avoid harsh chemical polishes or abrasive cleaners, which can strip thin plating or affect delicate balance springs inside mechanical movements.
