Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Coffers and blanket chests were among the primary forms of furniture in European households from the Middle Ages through the 17th century. Used to store textiles, clothing, and valuables, they were often decorated with hand-carved panels reflecting regional craftsmanship and architectural styles.

Early oak chests were constructed using solid quarter-sawn oak joined with mortise and tenon joints secured by wooden pegs. The panels were frequently hand-carved with relief patterns and fitted into grooved frames to accommodate wood movement.

Authentic period chests exhibit signs of hand-planed surfaces, irregular pegs, and natural oxidisation inside the cabinet and underneath. Original iron hardware, peg construction, and wear consistent with age around the base and handles also indicate authenticity.

A carved oak chest functions as a statement piece in modern entryways, living rooms, or at the foot of a bed. Positioning it against a neutral wall allows the detailed timber carving to contrast with modern upholstered furniture.

Preserve the finish by keeping the chest away from direct heat sources and sunlight to prevent wood shrinkage or cracking. Regular dusting with a soft cloth and occasional applications of high-grade beeswax will protect the original patina.
