Archival Detail
Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A 17th century oak coffer is a wooden storage chest constructed with mortise and tenon joinery, featuring carved decorative panels, a hinged lid, and iron hardware, historically used for storing linens and household textiles.

These coffers were crafted using solid English oak, joined with wooden pegs rather than metal nails, and incorporated frame-and-panel construction to allow the timber to adapt to ambient moisture changes.

Authentic period coffers display hand-hewn timber marks, original peg construction, historical iron lock plates or wire hinges, uneven panel shrinkage, and deep patination from centuries of use.

An antique oak coffer functions effectively at the foot of a bed, in an entryway, or beside modern upholstered seating, offering visual balance between historical timber work and contemporary textiles.

Maintain the surface by dusting with a soft, lint-free cloth and applying a neutral beeswax polish once or twice per year, keeping the piece away from direct heat sources and humid environments.
