This George III bow-fronted corner washstand dates from the late eighteenth century, around 1790, and fits into the English Country House style. The piece has a warm brown mahogany timber construction with a visible patina, a shaped triangular top enclosed by a raised galleried border, and a single bow-fronted central cupboard door fitted with a circular brass ring handle. The item stands on three slender outcurved legs with a shaped apron and includes two cut-out carrying handles on the gallery. The furniture measures 80 cm high, 55 cm wide, and 38 cm deep. In a contemporary home, this corner stand functions practically as an occasional table or small cupboard in an empty corner of a bedroom, hallway, or sitting room to hold everyday items or display decorative objects while occupying minimal floor space.

Introduced during the reign of King George III in late eighteenth-century Britain, corner washstands were designed to hold ceramic basin sets for morning ablutions while efficiently utilizing space in compact bedrooms.

These washstands were predominantly constructed from solid mahogany or mahogany veneers, featuring secondary timbers like pine or oak for interior framing, alongside cast brass hardware.

Authentic period examples display hand-cut dovetail joints, hand-planed backboards, natural age-related patination on the mahogany, and original brass fittings appropriate to the late Georgian era.

A corner washstand functions well in modern homes as a compact drinks cabinet, a hallway display stand for houseplants, or an accent piece in a cloakroom.

Maintain mahogany timber by dusting with a soft microfiber cloth, applying high-grade beeswax polish annually, and keeping the item away from direct heat sources and high humidity.
