This Regency mahogany octagonal work table dates from the nineteenth century. The piece has a dark brown finish with visible wood grain and incorporates an octagonal top set above a single frieze drawer fitted with a working key, a metal keyhole escutcheon, and a white tassel hanging from the lock. Fine ebony line inlay traces the top edge, complemented by ebony stringing on the drawer front. Four slender, tapered turned legs support the structure, each detailed with decorative ring turnings down their length and terminating in simple rounded feet. Measuring 75 cm high, 53 cm wide, and 41 cm deep, the compact footprint suits smaller spaces. Homeowners today typically place this occasional table in an empty corner, beside a seating area in a living room, or as a bedside stand in a bedroom, where it provides a practical surface and a concealed compartment for small accessories while contributing a traditional British aesthetic to the interior.

Regency work tables typically feature compact proportions, refined timber construction such as mahogany or rosewood, and practical storage drawers originally designed for needlework and small crafts during the early nineteenth century.

Fine hardwoods like Cuban or Honduran mahogany, rosewood, and satinwood were commonly used for the primary structure, often accompanied by hand-dovetailed drawers and hand-turned legs.

Authentic pieces exhibit signs of period craftsmanship, including hand-sawn secondary timbers, irregular dovetail joints, hand-cut brass locks, and natural patination along the turned legs and surface edges.

A compact table of this scale functions well as an end table beside low-profile seating, within a hallway alcove, or as a bedside table in spaces requiring a slim footprint.

Maintain mahogany furniture by dusting regularly with a dry soft cloth, applying a high-quality beeswax polish annually, and keeping the piece away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent timber shrinkage or fading.
