Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This Edwardian ships washstand belongs to the Edwardian Maritime style and stands 188 cm high, 52 cm wide, and 31 cm deep. The piece is constructed from warm brown oak with a white ceramic basin, glass mirror, and brass hardware including latches and handles. The cabinet features an upper arched mirror, a drop-front door opening to the ceramic washbasin, integrated small white ceramic containers, and lower cupboard doors. The woodwork displays clean rectangular mouldings on the drop-front and cabinet panels, paired with visible brass hinges and small round metal knobs. Two back boards require replacement due to woodworm damage. Placed in a home today, this compact folding washstand serves as a functional statement piece in a hallway, bedroom, or bathroom.

FAQs

Designed for use in naval vessels and passenger liners during the early twentieth century, an Edwardian ships washstand is a compact, space-saving cabinet featuring a fold-out ceramic basin, mirror, and integrated storage fixtures.

These pieces were constructed from durable hardwoods such as oak, mahogany, or teak to withstand sea dampness, paired with brass hardware, mirrored glass, and glazed earthenware or ceramic basins.

Authentic maritime washstands feature practical space-saving mechanics, such as fold-down washbowls with integrated drainage systems, brass latches designed to secure components in rough seas, and narrow vertical proportions.

These units function effectively as compact cloakroom vanities, unique hallway accent cabinets, or functional drink stations where the fold-down compartment provides useful surface area.

Clean timber surfaces with a soft cloth and apply beeswax polish periodically, while ceramic basins should be washed with mild soapy water, avoiding abrasive cleaners that strip the original glaze.
