FAQs

During the Baroque era, European sculptors crafted devotional figures for churches, private chapels, and domestic shrines to illustrate sacred narratives and saintly iconography.

Craftsmen typically carved figures from solid European hardwoods such as oak, walnut, lime, or pine, frequently finishing them with gesso, polychrome paint, or gold leaf.

Authentic period pieces exhibit hand-chiseled gouge marks, natural age splitting along timber grain lines, historic wear to exposed areas, and hand-joined timber elements.

Placing a carved figure on a contemporary console table, inside a minimalist display alcove, or atop a mantelpiece provides textural contrast against clean modern surfaces.

Remove dust using a soft dry brush, avoiding water, chemical polishes, or sudden fluctuations in humidity that could cause the timber to warp or crack.
