Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This large multi-functional hall seat stand dates from the 1960 Victorian revival period, constructed from oak with a warm brown finish. The piece incorporates a central arched mirror flanked by brass coat hooks, positioned above built-in storage boxes with two lift-up lidded seats flanking a central trough base intended for boots or plants. The structure is completed by a pronounced moulded cornice running along the top, vertical panel details on the lower front sections, and sturdy rectangular block feet supporting the entire assembly. Measuring 206 cm high, 194 cm wide, and 48 cm deep, this substantial furniture item provides practical organisation and storage solutions. It suits a spacious entrance hallway, mudroom, or large porch as a functional anchor piece for coats, hats, and footwear in a domestic interior.

FAQs

Originating in the Victorian era, hall stands were designed as all-in-one reception furniture placed in entryways to hold coats, hats, walking sticks, and umbrellas while providing visitors with a mirror for grooming.

These pieces were primarily built using solid hardwoods such as oak, mahogany, or walnut, complemented by cast brass or iron hooks, glass mirrors, and occasionally zinc-lined drip pans for umbrellas.

Authentic period examples display signs of hand-planed joinery, original foxing or silvering degradation on mirror plates, authentic patinated brass fittings, and age-appropriate wear to the timber finish.

A large hall stand serves as a functional architectural focal point in grand entryways, foyers, or boot rooms, offering characterful coat storage and seating without requiring additional furniture pieces.

Dust timber surfaces regularly with a soft cloth and apply a high-grade beeswax polish annually, while keeping mirror surfaces clean using non-ammoniated glass cleaners applied directly to a microfibre cloth.
