Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A Victorian tram bench is a specialized form of public transport seating engineered during the late nineteenth century for trams and trolley buses. It features a mechanical backrest that pivots from front to back, allowing passengers to remain facing forward regardless of the vehicles direction of travel.

These benches are constructed using dense, durable timbers such as pitch pine or oak for the slatted or solid plank seat, paired with heavy cast iron end supports and steel pivoting arm mechanisms.

Authentic pieces feature cast iron frame supports, mechanical pivoting joints, and slotted timber seats through which the backrest support arms slide. Surface wear, screw placement, and iron casting marks consistent with late nineteenth-century industrial manufacturing also help confirm age.

A tram bench can be incorporated into a hallway or boot room as practical entry seating, placed along one side of a long dining table, or positioned in an open-plan room where the reversible backrest allows orientation toward different functional areas.

Clean the timber using a lightly damp cloth and apply natural beeswax regularly to preserve the finish. Keep cast iron elements dry and apply microcrystalline wax or a fine coat of oil to prevent surface oxidisation.
