Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A George III serpentine chest of drawers dates from the late 18th century and features a distinctive undulating front shape that curves convexly in the centre and concavely towards the sides. These pieces typically incorporate fine mahogany veneers, graduated drawers, and classic metal hardware.

Georgian cabinetmakers primarily used dense Cuban or West Indian mahogany for outer surfaces, prized for its strength and deep colour. Secondary woods such as pine or oak were used for internal drawer linings, accompanied by cast brass handles and steel lock mechanisms.

Authentic 18th-century pieces display hand-cut dovetail joints, hand-sawn drawer linings, and natural wood shrinkage along drawer bottoms. Oxidation on the untreated reverse timber and age-appropriate wear around brass keyholes and handles also indicate original construction.

A mahogany chest creates architectural contrast when set against modern neutral walls, minimalist lighting, or contemporary artwork. It functions effectively in entrance halls, living rooms, or bedrooms as both a storage solution and a grounding anchor piece.

Maintain mahogany by applying a quality beeswax polish once or twice a year to nourish the wood and preserve the patina. Keep the piece away from direct heat sources and direct sunlight to prevent timber shrinkage, splitting, or colour fading.
