Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A Georgian serpentine chest of drawers is an eighteenth-century storage piece featuring a gently undulating S-shaped front panel. Popularised during the Chippendale and Hepplewhite eras, these pieces combine practical storage with refined cabinetmaking techniques.

Authentic eighteenth-century chests were constructed using solid mahogany or flame mahogany veneers laid over pine or oak carcases. Standard construction features include hand-cut dovetail drawer joints, oak drawer linings, and cast brass hardware.

Authenticity is indicated by irregular hand-cut dovetails, original cast brass backplates, thin hand-planed drawer linings, and natural wood shrinkage across the carcase. The serpentine front curve should follow precise, smooth lines.

Position the chest as a focal point in a hallway, bedroom, or living area, pairing its rich wood tones with contemporary artwork or a framed mirror hung above. The compact scale provides clean visual balance alongside modern furnishings.

Dust regularly with a dry, lint-free cloth and apply a high-grade beeswax polish annually to protect the original patina. Keep the piece away from direct sunlight and radiator heat sources to prevent timber movement and veneer lifting.
