Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Originating in the second half of the eighteenth century, George III serpentine chests are distinguished by their gently curved front profile featuring a convex centre flanked by concave sides. This form was popularised by cabinetmakers such as Thomas Chippendale and George Hepplewhite, combining classical proportions with functional storage.

These chests were primarily crafted using dense West Indian or Cuban mahogany for exterior veneers and solid framework, often featuring satinwood or boxwood stringing for decorative top inlays. Secondary timber for drawer linings typically comprised oak or pine, fitted with hand-cast brass handles and escutcheons.

Authentic pieces exhibit hand-cut dovetail joints on the drawer linings, irregularities in the thickness of saw-cut veneers, and period-correct oak or pine secondary woods. Physical wear on the drawer runners and natural oxidisation on the underside of the timber also indicate original eighteenth-century origin.

A Georgian chest of drawers serves as a functional focal point when placed in an entryway, living room, or master bedroom. Its curved silhouette creates contrast when positioned against clean architectural lines or alongside contemporary artwork and minimalist table lamps.

Preserve the natural timber finish by applying a high-grade beeswax polish once or twice a year, buffing along the grain with a soft cotton cloth. Keep the furniture away from direct heat sources such as radiators and out of direct sunlight to prevent timber movement, veneer lifting, and uneven fading.
