Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Imari porcelain refers to Japanese export ceramics produced in the Arita region of Hizen province. Named after the port of Imari from which it was shipped, this style is recognised for its distinct palette of underglaze cobalt blue and overglaze iron-red enameling.

Pieces were crafted from kaolin clay, glazed, and fired at high temperatures with cobalt blue underglaze motifs. Afterwards, artisan decorators applied iron-red enamels, green pigments, and gilded highlights over the glaze before subjecting the ceramic to a second low-temperature firing.

Authentic Meiji pieces often feature uneven, hand-painted brushwork, subtle spurs or kiln marks on the underside, and minor surface imperfections within the glaze. Overglaze enamels may show slight wear or texture, and the porcelain foot ring often exhibits natural discolouration.

Interior designers frequently position Imari ceramics as focal accents on dark timber sideboards, entry tables, or within lit display cabinets. The vivid red and blue palette contrasts with neutral minimalist schemes or complements traditional layered interiors.

Dust gently with a soft microfibre cloth or dry brush to protect overglaze enamels. Avoid harsh chemicals, abrasive sponges, or immersion in hot water, as elevated temperatures and abrasive cleaners can degrade historic gilt and enamel layers.
