Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Imari porcelain refers to Japanese export wares produced in the Arita region and shipped from the port of Imari. Originating in the seventeenth century, this style is characterized by dark cobalt blue underglaze decoration paired with vibrant overglaze iron-red enamels and gold leaf highlights.

These pieces are crafted from kaolin clay fired at high temperatures to create dense hard-paste porcelain. The underlying blue designs are painted onto the unglazed body using cobalt oxide before initial firing, followed by hand-applied iron-red pigments and gold enamels fired in subsequent kiln stages.

Authentic pieces display distinct hand-painted irregularities, subtle spur marks on the underside from kiln supports, and three-dimensional enamel textures. Older examples feature deep indigo blues and rich iron-red tones rather than uniform, modern transfer prints.

Display porcelain bowls as focal points on dark mahogany sideboards, within glazed cabinet shelves, or mounted on plate stands along a mantelpiece. The strong palette of cobalt blue and rust red pairs effectively with neutral walls and traditional timber furniture.

Clean ceramic surfaces gently using lukewarm water and a mild detergent applied with a soft cloth. Avoid abrasive scrubbers, harsh chemical cleaners, or submersion in water, as these can erode delicate overglaze gilding and enamels over time.
