Imari porcelain originates from the Arita region of Japan and is characterised by its distinctive underglaze cobalt blue combined with overglaze iron red and gilded detailing.

Imari ware is crafted from kaolin ceramic clay and fired at high temperatures before an initial underglaze cobalt application, followed by overglaze enamel painting and secondary firing.

Authentic pieces frequently display spur marks on the base, minor irregularities on the footrim, vibrant cobalt blue underglazes, and subtle surface wear to overglaze enamels.
