Imari porcelain refers to Japanese hard-paste porcelain produced in the Arita region and exported from the port of Imari, predominantly from the late seventeenth century onwards. It is famous for its distinct palette featuring underglaze cobalt blue alongside overglaze iron-red and enamel detailing.

Imari ceramics are crafted from kaolin-rich porcelain clay fired at high temperatures. The production process involves painting initial designs in cobalt oxide before glazing, firing, and subsequently applying overglaze enamel colors and gilt accents for a final low-temperature firing.
