Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Imari porcelain refers to Japanese porcelain made in the Arita area and exported from the port of Imari. It is recognized for its distinctive palette combining underglaze cobalt blue with overglaze iron red, gold, and colourful enamels in geometric and floral arrangements.

Traditional Imari ceramics are crafted from kaolin clay porcelain, fired at elevated temperatures to produce a dense, non-porous body. Designs are created using cobalt oxide underglaze followed by overglaze enamel pigments and gilding applied during subsequent lower-temperature firings.

Authentic antique Imari pieces typically exhibit hand-painted variations in decoration, subtle irregularities in glaze thickness, and minor firing imperfections or iron spots near the unglazed foot rim. The cobalt blue underglaze often bleeds slightly into the white porcelain ground.

A Japanese Imari bowl functions as a decorative focal point when placed on dark wood sideboards, consoles, or open shelving. Its detailed colour palette complements traditional oak and mahogany as well as neutral modern schemes requiring texture and contrast.

Antique Imari porcelain should be washed by hand using warm water and a mild detergent with a soft cloth. Abrasive cleaners, scourers, and mechanical dishwashers must be avoided to prevent fading or removal of overglaze enamel and gilding.
