Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

An 18th-century oak chest of drawers typically features solid oak timber construction, geometric moulded panels, and cast brass handles. The design reflects the transition from heavy seventeenth-century joinery to more refined eighteenth-century proportions.

Craftsmen constructed these pieces using solid oak, employing hand-cut dovetail joints on drawer linings and backboards split with pit saws. Hardware typically consisted of cast brass handles and iron locks paired with decorative brass escutcheons.

Authentic period pieces show signs of age-related contraction in the timber, hand-planed surfaces on drawer undersides, and thick, uneven dovetail joints. Wear patterns consistently appear around keyholes, foot bases, and internal drawer runners.

Position the chest against a neutral backdrop in an entryway, living room, or bedroom to highlight the patination and geometric carving. Combining historic timber with contemporary artwork or modern table lamps creates a balanced, layered visual scheme.

Dust surfaces regularly with a soft, dry cloth and apply a clear beeswax polish annually to nourish the timber and maintain the patina. Keep the item clear of direct heat sources and damp environments to prevent wood movement or splitting.
