Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Georgian oak furniture is characterised by robust craftsmanship, balanced classical proportions, and functional simplicity produced between 1714 and 1830. Pieces from this era typically feature hand-joined construction, panelled backs, and understated decorative elements.

Solid English oak was a primary timber for regional cabinetmakers, valued for its durability and prominent grain pattern. Hardware typically comprised cast brass swing handles, iron lock mechanisms, and hand-cut dovetail drawer joints.

Authentic pieces feature hand-sawn timber marks, irregular dovetail joints, original iron or brass keyhole escutcheons, and natural wear patterns around handles and feet. The interior drawer linings often display oak or pine secondary woods with hand-planed finishes.

Place the chest against a neutral backdrop to highlight the rich oak grain, balancing its historic weight with modern artwork or minimal ceramic decor placed on top. Combining historic wood tones with contemporary textiles creates a layered interior scheme.

Keep oak furniture away from direct heat sources and sunlight to prevent timber movement or surface fading. Dust regularly with a dry, soft cloth and apply a high-quality beeswax polish once or twice a year to maintain the protective patina.
