Description

This exceptional three-piece rouge red marble mantle clock with a matching pair of urns is a fine and impressive set in superb original condition. It has a plain domed case with moulded decoration made from figured rouge marble.

The clock is enhanced with gilt bronze feet and above a front panel with a bevelled glass centre through which you can see the ornate brass pendulum. The movement is a fourteen-day striking mechanism with an open brocot escapement which is made and signed by Samuel Marti of Paris who was awarded medals for his exceptional mechanisms. The dial is in gilt bronze with a white enamelled chapter ring with black numerals which is behind a decorative cast and a glazed bezel which is hinged and opens to give access to the winding points, hands and the regulator.

The back has a similar hinged door to access the back of the movement below which is a similar glass panel which enables you to see right through the clock. Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A French clock garniture is a decorative three-piece set originating in 18th-century France, comprising a central mantel clock flanked by two matching ornamental sidepieces, such as urns, cassolettes, or candelabra.

Nineteenth-century French clock sets were commonly constructed using carved marble, slate, or onyx, complemented by gilt brass or ormolu mountings and hand-painted enamel dials.

Authentic French clocks from this era typically feature maker stamps stamped directly onto the rear brass movement plates, mercury temperature-compensated pendulums, enamel dials with Roman numerals, and heavy marble or metal casings.

Position the central clock symmetrically on a fireplace mantelpiece, console table, or sideboard, arranging the two matching side urns at equal distances to create balanced architectural proportions against modern backgrounds.

Wipe the marble surfaces gently using a soft cloth dampened with warm water, avoid abrasive polish on brass mountings, and instruct a professional horologist to service the mechanical movement every five years.
