Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Snuff boxes gained prominence in Europe during the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries as personal containers for finely ground tobacco. By the nineteenth century, silver snuff boxes were popular status items crafted by skilled silversmiths with detailed surface engraving and custom cartouches.

Traditional snuff boxes were constructed from sterling silver, comprising 92.5 percent pure silver alloyed with copper for structural durability. Silversmiths used hand-chasing, engine turning, and bright-cut engraving techniques to decorate the covers, fitting them with tight flush hinges to protect contents.

Authentic British silver pieces feature a full set of official hallmarks, including a makers mark, a town mark, a fineness mark such as the lion passant, and a date letter. The Chester assay office mark uniquely depicted a coat of arms featuring three wheat sheaves and a sword.

Small silver boxes function well as decorative accents on an office desk, coffee table tray, or bedside table. They can be styled alongside stacked leather-bound books, brass objects, or displayed inside a glass cabinet as part of a silver collection.

Silver items should be dusted gently with a soft microfibre cloth and polished periodically using a specialised silver polishing cream to remove tarnish. Avoid submerging hinged boxes in water or using abrasive chemicals that could wear down delicate hand engraving.
