We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A Victorian silver snuff box is a pocket-sized container crafted from sterling silver during the reign of Queen Victoria (18371901), designed to store finely ground tobacco. These items often feature detailed hand engraving, repousse work, and gilded interiors to protect the metal from chemical corrosion caused by the moisture in tobacco.

Victorian snuff boxes were predominantly constructed from solid sterling silver, frequently featuring a gold-wash or gilding on the interior surface. Additional materials incorporated into elaborate designs of the period included tortoiseshell, mother-of-pearl, horn, and inlaid enamel.

Authentic British Victorian silver boxes feature full hallmark sets struck into the interior lid, base, or rim. These hallmarks include the lion passant for sterling silver, a town mark indicating the assay office, a date letter, and a makers mark.

An antique silver box can be styled as a refined tabletop accessory on a writing desk, coffee table, or bookshelf. It serves as an elegant vessel for holding small daily items such as paperclips, jewellery, or keepsake items.

The exterior silver surface should be gently polished using a dry, soft silver cloth to remove oxidisation without wearing down detailed chasing. The gilded interior requires minimal intervention and should only be dusted with a microfibre cloth, avoiding harsh chemical polishes that can strip thin gold plating.
