A gorgeous mid 19th Century snuffbox. This charming example is decorated in blonde tortoiseshell veneers, with a blank silver cartouche to the top. The hinged lid opens via a push button release, to reveal paper lined interior. A wonderful and collectible piece, with an alternative use as a ring or small trinket box. Dimensions below.

Snuff boxes originated in the seventeenth century following the popularity of pulverized tobacco, becoming essential personal accessories across Europe by the mid-nineteenth century. They served both functional purposes for holding tobacco and social functions as indicators of status.
