Ritas Bazaar has dated these Japanese Satsuma Ceramic Vases to the 19th Century.
The painting is of very good quality, with exceptionally delicate detail throughout. The figures are carefully handled, the dragon motif is lively and effective, and the raised moriage work adds further richness, texture and visual depth. Together with the gilding, this gives the pair a refined and very decorative character associated with better Satsuma export wares of the Meiji period.
A major advantage is the Hododa mark, which places the pair within a recognised and commercially desirable Satsuma group. This is an important positive factor and adds weight to the pair from both a collecting and a market perspective.
