In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Satsuma ware is a distinct style of Japanese earthenware ceramic originating in the Satsuma province during the sixteenth century, which became widely exported to Western markets during the Meiji period. It is characterised by a cream-coloured body, a finely crackled clear glaze, and detailed overglaze enamel decoration with gilded accents.

Satsuma vessels are crafted from local low-fire earthenware clay, giving them a soft and porous ceramic structure. Artisans apply a clear lead glaze that crazes upon cooling to create the signature crackle background, which is then painted by hand with polychrome enamels and gold leaf detailing before undergoing a final low-temperature firing.

Authentic pieces generally display a warm, cream-tinted glaze with uniform fine crackle lines, highly delicate hand painting, and light wear to the surface gilding. Earlier and higher-quality examples feature intricate botanical or figurative brushwork and frequently carry painted Japanese maker marks or signatures on the underside.

Large decorative ceramic urns serve as balance anchors when placed symmetrically on a substantial sideboard or flanking a fireplace hearth. Their botanical motifs and saturated colour palettes complement both traditional period interiors and minimalist contemporary settings requiring a textured artistic focal point.

Dust the surfaces gently using a clean, soft microfibre cloth or a natural feather duster to protect the delicate surface enamels. Avoid submerging the ceramic in water or using liquid detergents, as moisture can penetrate the porous earthenware body through the crackled glaze and cause structural weakening over time.
