Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

Cast iron garden urns became popular during the nineteenth century as decorative vessels for formal gardens and courtyards. Their durable, heavy construction allowed them to withstand weather while featuring classical architectural proportions.

These planters were created by pouring molten iron into sand moulds, resulting in heavy vessels with distinct decorative detailing. Over time, original painted finishes oxidize, developing layered patinas of rust and distressed paint.

Authentic pieces exhibit substantial weight, subtle casting seams from sand moulds, and natural weather wear. Look for genuine surface oxidisation, flaking paint layers, and crisp casting details rather than smooth modern lightweight reproductions.

Small urns can be placed on a fireplace mantelpiece, deep window sill, or sideboard top as sculptural accents. They also function well outdoors flanking an entrance or displayed on a garden wall filled with moss or succulents.

To preserve the weathered patina, keep the urns dry or use inner plastic liners when planting to prevent constant moisture contact. If displayed outdoors, ensure drainage holes remain clear and apply a neutral microcrystalline wax to stabilize surface rust.
