Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A monks bench, also known as a settle table or metamorphic chair, is a multi-functional item of furniture featuring a hinged backrest that swivels forward to rest on the armrests, converting the seat into a table top above a storage box base.

These pieces were primarily constructed from solid European oak or walnut using traditional mortise and tenon joinery, often incorporating hand-pierced cut-outs, panelled bases, and heavy brass or iron pivoting hinges.

Authentic period examples exhibit natural timber patination, hand-cut joinery inside the storage compartment, historical wear around the tilt mechanism, and stylized organic or geometric cut-out motifs popular between 1890 and 1910.

Position the bench in an entryway, hallway, or boot room to provide functional seating and hidden storage, balancing the dark oak timber with neutral wall tones or a minimalist wall mirror placed directly above.

Maintain the wood by dusting regularly with a clean microfiber cloth and applying a clear beeswax polish once or twice a year, keeping the item away from radiator heat sources to prevent timber shrinkage or splitting.
