French Louis XV revival console tables from circa 1870 typically feature curvilinear silhouettes, asymmetrical scrollwork, acanthus leaf motifs, and single cabriole support legs, designed to mount directly against a wall beneath mirrors or architectural paneling.

These tables were crafted using carved timberoften pine, walnut, or oakcoated with gesso, painted, or finished with leaf gilding. They were topped with fitted, shaped marble slabs, frequently in white, grey, or variegated tones.

Authentic pieces exhibit signs of age such as minor oxidisation of the gilding, cracking or craquelure in the gesso surface, hand-carved joinery underneath, and natural patination or wear on the marble underside.

Position them symmetrically in a hallway, flank an entryway door, or mount them on either side of a fireplace to create balance. Their light finish and marble tops contrast well with clean, minimalist wall backgrounds.
