A beautiful Heriz that has to be seen to be fully understood. The camera relentlessly dislikes it so its true beauty is hidden, despite repeated attempts to capture it. Very fine, and in excellent original condition, this classy carpet shines with a beautiful patina, a lovely soft red ground and wonderful flashes of light blue, green, pink and olive, within a commanding main border in pure navy blue. It is an exceptional piece.

Heriz carpets originate from the Northwest Azerbaijan province of Iran, renowned for their resilient construction and bold geometric interpretations of traditional floral designs. Woven by village craftspeople, these rugs gained widespread popularity in the late 19th and early 20th centuries across Western markets.

These carpets are hand-knotted using durable hand-spun wool pile woven onto a thick cotton warp and weft foundation. The wool is historically coloured using natural vegetable and mineral dyes, contributing to subtle tonal variations throughout the pile.
