A very attractive and uncommon decorative carpet from North West Persia, an absolute gem for putting a room together. I guarantee will look amazing in your home and so many lovely colours to work with.

And with a very similar one I currently have in stock you could divide a large room into two halves beautifully!

Bakshaish (or Bakhshayesh) carpets originate from Northwest Persia, near the Heriz weaving district, and are renowned for their stylised, geometric interpretations of classical Persian floral patterns. Produced primarily during the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, these carpets feature bold field designs, abstracted central medallions, and soft dye palettes.

These carpets are hand-knotted using hand-spun wool pile woven onto a cotton or wool warp and weft foundation. The dyes are traditionally derived from natural plant and mineral sources, resulting in rich madder reds, indigo blues, and ivory tones with characteristic natural shade variations known as abrash.

Authentic Bakshaish pieces are identified by their artistic geometricisation of motifs, soft wool quality, and a more supple handle than rigid urban workshop weaving. Inspection of the reverse reveals hand-knotted asymmetrical construction, variable natural dye shading, and traditional edge finishings.
