Size: 11ft 6in x 8ft 7in (350 x 262cm).

Antique Heriz carpet with a very well-drawn large medallion and excellent colours.

Circa 1900.

The carpet has a large central medallion of traditional Heriz design, the ground colour is a superb warm madder red with the open floral spray design in pastel colours. The spandrels are in very soft powder blue with pink and green. The well drawn indigo blue classic Heriz border frames the carpet well.

A superb designers carpet for that timeless country house look.

The Carpet is in excellent condition with slight even wear and good pile.

The carpet is suitable for normal domestic use such as a living or dining room.

The carpet has been hand washed and is ready for use or display.

Heriz carpets originate from the Northwest region of Iran, near the city of Tabriz. Produced from the nineteenth century onwards, these floor coverings are distinguished by their bold, angular geometric interpretations of traditional floral Persian designs.

Heriz rugs are hand-knotted using durable wool pile constructed over a cotton warp and weft foundation. The local wool is notoriously tough due to copper trace elements in the regions water supply, and yarns are coloured using natural plant and mineral dyes.

Authentic antique Heriz carpets feature a strong central geometric medallion, angular corner spandrels, and a prominent palmette border. The weave displays small, natural variations on the reverse, accompanied by subtle colour variations, known as abrash, throughout the field.
