Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

This nineteenth-century rustic organic bench demonstrates a sculptural form shaped entirely from a solid teak root ball with a weathered grey colour and natural live edge contours. The design incorporates an irregular sculpted backrest, an organic seating surface, and four sturdy timber support legs resting upon wooden floorboards. Silvered by time, the timber displays natural knotting, hollows, and undulating grain patterns across the seat and high back structure. Measuring 188 cm wide by 85 cm deep by 90 cm high, the furniture piece provides generous seating suitable for diverse interior environments ranging from rustic farmhouse spaces to modern living rooms. The bench functions as a standalone sculptural seating option positioned against neutral walls or inside spacious hallways.

FAQs

Teak root furniture originated as a sustainable method to utilise the below-ground root systems left behind after commercial timber harvesting. Craftsmen excavate and clean the durable roots, carving them into functional seating and tables that highlight the natural growth patterns of the tree.

These benches are constructed from solid teak tree roots, known for high natural oil content and density. The wood is hand-carved, sanded, and often kiln-dried to prevent cracking, leaving natural hollows, knots, and grain variations intact.

Authentic pieces feature unique, non-repeating grain patterns, solid heavy weight, and natural voids formed by growth. Genuine teak displays distinct oiliness in raw wood and develops a silvery-grey patina over time when exposed to UV light.

Position a teak root bench in an hallway, garden terrace, or open-plan living room as a textural statement piece. Contrast its organic form against clean architectural lines, smooth plastered walls, or minimalist stone flooring.

Maintain teak root wood by dusting regularly with a soft cloth and washing occasionally with mild soapy water. For outdoor use, apply a teak protector or sealer to maintain moisture resistance, or allow the wood to naturally weather to a silver-grey shade.
