Mahal carpets originated from the Mahal district in west-central Persia and are recognised for their expressive floral patterns, wide compound borders, and open grid designs woven during the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries.

These carpets are hand-knotted using hand-spun wool pile woven onto a durable cotton warp and weft foundation, utilizing natural plant and mineral dyes for deep colouration.

Authentic pieces feature asymmetrical Persian knots, subtle abrash colour variations from vegetable dyes, a pliable handle, and characteristic slight hand-woven irregularities.
