Elegant Victorian Burr Walnut Canterbury Whatnot Table

Description

-Welcome to Mersham Manor Antiques-

An excellent quality Victorian burr-walnut Canterbury whatnot.

c1860.

The rectangular top with the most lovely ornate fret carved sides, with matching fret carved side supports.

Below are three divisions, which were originally for sheet music, but for modern day use are excellent as a magazine or book tidy. Surrounding the divisions is open fretwork, carved with foliate and naturalistic designs.

To the base is a very useful drawer, of fine dove-tail construction, with the original turned handles.

Lovely rich colour and figuring to the walnut, having developed a warm patina. Cleaned and waxed in our workshop.

Standing on bulbous turned legs with porcelain castors.

In excellent antique condition.

Solid, sturdy and strong.
