The Arts and Crafts movement, spanning roughly from 1880 to 1920, emphasised craftsmanship, traditional joinery, and the use of natural materials, reacting against mass production.

Makers predominantly utilised solid native hardwoods, particularly oak, often featuring quarter-sawn figuring, along with wrought iron and copper hardware.

Authentic pieces typically display visible construction methods such as pegged joints and dovetailing, unpretentious functional designs, and hand-finished surfaces.

Position the piece beside a reading chair or sofa to introduce textural warmth and historic character while serving a functional storage purpose.

Preserve the wood by dusting with a soft cloth and applying traditional beeswax periodically, avoiding direct sunlight and excessive humidity.
