Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.
Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.
Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

A Regency overmantel mirror is a wide horizontal mirror produced during the early 19th century, designed specifically to mount directly above a fireplace mantelpiece. These mirrors typically feature architectural elements, such as pilasters, cornices, and Classical revival motifs influenced by Greco-Roman design.

Regency gilded mirrors were crafted from carved wood frames, often pine or lime, combined with composition ornamentation made from chalk and glue. The surfaces were treated with clay bole and covered in fine gold leaf, enclosing a hand-cut mirror plate.

Authentic Regency mirrors often show signs of age on the mirror plate, including minor oxidisation or mercury glass distortion. The reverse side typically features hand-sawn timber backing boards, and the gilding exhibits subtle wear exposing the red or yellow clay bole beneath.

Position the mirror above a chimney breast or dark wood sideboard to serve as an architectural focal point within the room. Combining the ornate gilded frame with clean-lined modern art or contemporary paint palettes creates a balanced contrast between historical craft and modern design.

Gilded surfaces should be dusted gently using a dry, soft camel-hair brush or microfibre cloth without liquid cleaners. Water and chemical solvents can strip the delicate gold leaf and damage the underlying composition ornament, so specialised conservation is recommended for restorations.
