Description

This striking and versatile walnut table epitomizes the luxurious and ornamental style characteristic of the Art Deco period, also referred to as Style Moderne or Jaz Moderne, prevalent during the 1920s and early 1930s. This piece was constructed to an exemplary standard during the interwar years. It reflects a time when skilled cabinet making was widely practiced as a pastime, drawing inspiration from the design books and periodicals of that era. Now, after some sensitive restoration and refinishing, the full visual impact of the well-chosen walnut that decorates this attractive and stylish table can once again be seen – we felt the ink marks to the interior of the drawer were a distraction, so we have traditionally lined it out with a sympathetic grey sugar paper.

Dealers Notes

Whenever possible Culvertons undertake the carriage of items within London and the home counties. Professional, competitive and trusted couriers and shipping companies are engaged for deliveries for the remainder of our customers. Smaller items, when instructed, will be carefully parcelled and securely sent by the carrier.

We strive to accurately describe and illustrate our stock on the 'Selling Antiques' website. However, we understand that it is not always possible to judge from photographs how an item will look in the home or garden. For this reason, if notified within seven days from the date of delivery we offer a full refund (less any agreed carriage costs) once the item has been returned in the same condition as it left our premises.

Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

Art Deco furniture is characterised by sleek geometric shapes, streamlined forms, symmetrical designs, and the use of luxurious materials such as burr walnut, mahogany, and chrome highlights.

Authentic period tables typically feature traditional joinery methods such as dovetail joints for drawers, mortise and tenon framing, and solid wood or veneered construction over secondary timbers.

Authenticity is assessed by examining the timber grain, patina, construction techniques, hardware, and maker marks or stamps typical of early twentieth-century manufacturing standards.

A vintage wooden table functions well as a focal point when contrasted against neutral walls, paired with contemporary minimalist seating, or styled with simple metallic and ceramic accessories.

Preservation involves maintaining stable indoor humidity levels, avoiding direct sunlight to prevent veneer fading, and applying occasional microcrystalline wax to nourish and protect the polished wooden surface.
