Imari porcelain refers to Japanese export ceramics produced in the Arita region and shipped via the port of Imari, traditionally characterised by underglaze cobalt blue and overglaze iron red and gold enamel decorations.

These pieces were crafted from kaolin clay, fired at high temperatures for porcelain density, decorated first with cobalt blue underglaze, refired, and subsequently detailed with overglaze enamel pigments and gilding in additional kilns.

Authentic pieces display hand-painted brushwork variations, slight asymmetry, visible spur marks on the underside base, a clear ring when tapped, and the characteristic palette of underglaze blue with rich iron-red tones.

Display the plate upright on a dark wooden sideboard, integrate it into a ceramic wall gallery, or place it on a clear acrylic stand inside a bookshelf to create textural and historical contrast.
