Imari porcelain refers to Japanese export ceramics produced in the Arita region and shipped from the port of Imari, historically characterised by a distinct palette of underglaze cobalt blue and overglaze iron red and gold enamels.

Imari wares are crafted from high-fired kaolin porcelain clay, receiving an initial underglaze cobalt blue painting before firing, followed by detailed hand painting in overglaze enamel pigments and secondary low-temperature kiln firings.
