FAQs

A canterbury is a small stand traditionally used for holding sheet music, magazines, or books, originating in late 18th-century England during the Georgian period.

They are typically constructed from dense hardwoods like mahogany, featuring divided upper compartments, a lower drawer, and turned legs often fitted with castors.

Authentic pieces exhibit period-appropriate joinery, traditional hand-turned components, rich timber patination, and period brass hardware without modern fixings.

It functions effectively as a sophisticated side table next to a sofa or armchair, doubling as a practical holder for periodicals or vinyl records.

Maintain timber condition by keeping it away from direct sunlight and heat sources, applying occasional microcrystalline wax, and avoiding moisture exposure.
