Japanese Satsuma Vase, Kyoto C.1890, Attributed to Hayakawa, Mt. Fuji Scene

Description

An elegant Satsuma earthenware vase of baluster form, finely hand-painted with a detailed genre scene showing women and children beneath cherry blossoms, with Mount Fuji rising in the distance. Made in Kyoto around 1890 and attributed to Hayakawa, one of the most respected Meiji-period decorators. Rich gilt and enamel work across a craquelure ivory-toned glaze. Underside with the Shimazu crest and overpainted cartouche — a known technique used to mask artist names on export pieces.

Condition: Excellent condition with minor wear to gilding. Slight enamel loss on the rim of the neck.No cracks, chips or restorations.

Size: Height 24.5 cm, diameter 13 cm. Weight: 977 grams (stand not included).
