Maintain the wood and metal inlay by keeping the piece away from direct sunlight and fluctuating humidity levels. Clean gently with a dry, soft cloth, avoiding harsh chemical polishes that can discolour the brass or damage the timber finish.

This table works effectively as an occasional accent piece, bringing texture and global character to contemporary spaces. It can be paired with minimalist upholstery to let the intricate woodwork stand out as a focal point.

Authentic 19th-century examples typically exhibit hand-carved joinery, natural patination on the timber, and hand-cut brass inlays that may show slight irregularities. Examining the underside and the folding mechanism often reveals period-appropriate construction methods and wear consistent with age.

These tables are traditionally constructed from native hardwoods such as sheesham (Indian rosewood) or mango wood. The surface features intricate chip-carved geometric or floral patterns, inlaid with brass wire, sheet metal, and occasionally bone or ivory highlights, often designed with a collapsible, folding base.

Hoshiarpur tables originate from the Punjab region of India, specifically the city of Hoshiarpur, which became renowned during the 19th century for its intricate woodwork. These pieces were frequently produced during the British colonial period, often combining traditional Indian craftsmanship with forms tailored to Western domestic tastes.
