Nineteenth Century Carron Foundry Cast Iron Garden Bench

A wonderful Nineteenth Century Carron Foundry cast iron garden bench; the back decorated with a pierced trellis work back and with scrolling arms decorated with flower sprays and graduated C scrolls; the seat composed with pierced arabesques and raised on cabriole legs decorated with further leaves and flowers. Stamped with the patent registration mark and retaining the original, beautifully distressed paintwork.

The design of this garden bench, numbered 34358 was registered by the Carron Foundry in 1846.
 
The Carron Foundry was established in 1759 on the banks of the River Carron near Falkirk, Scotland. The company was at the forefront of the Industrial Revolution, supplying parts for James Watt''s steam engines and carronades to the Royal Navy; by 1814 the Carron Foundry was the largest ironworks in Europe.
