The lowboy emerged during the late seventeenth century and gained immense popularity throughout the reign of George I, serving primarily as a small dressing or side table for elite households.

These pieces were predominantly constructed from figured walnut or oak veneers applied to secondary pine or oak carcases, featuring hand-cut dovetail joints and solid turned or cabriole legs.

Authenticity is determined by inspecting the hand-cut dovetailing, timber shrinkage patterns, original brass hardware or handle scars, and traditional timber framing techniques characteristic of the eighteenth century.

A lowboy serves effectively as a compact entryway console or an accent piece in a living space, contrasting sharply against minimalist contemporary backgrounds.

Maintain stable indoor humidity levels away from direct sunlight and heat sources, applying occasional traditional beeswax polish to nourish and protect the aged timber surface.
