Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

Our dealers are highly experienced in packing and shipping fragile, high-value antiques. Because you are in direct contact with the dealer, you will be able to easily go through all available shipping and insurance options together to ensure your item arrives safely.

The Sustainable Choice

Antiques are the ultimate green purchase. By choosing historical pieces over newly manufactured goods, you completely eliminate the carbon footprint of modern mass production while preserving exceptional, timeless craftsmanship.

FAQs

Burr walnut refers to the unique, swirled grain pattern harvested from the growth or burl on a walnut tree. Highly prized by cabinet makers, it gained widespread popularity during the late 17th century and saw major revivals in the Victorian and mid-century eras for high-end decorative pieces.

These pieces typically feature solid timber frames with decorative burr walnut veneer applied to the primary surfaces to showcase the intricate grain. Traditional joinery such as mortise and tenon is commonly employed, often paired with secondary materials like cane lower shelves and cast brass handles.

Authenticity can be determined by examining the irregularity and depth of the wood grain, which is unique in natural burr veneers. Look for period-appropriate construction methods, hand-cut dovetails in drawers, and genuine patina or age-related wear on the timber and hardware.

The rich, figured grain of burr walnut adds warmth and texture, making it an ideal contrast against neutral walls or minimalist modern upholstery. Pair the table with sleek metallic lighting or minimalist decorative objects to balance its traditional aesthetic with modern design sensibilities.

Protect burr walnut furniture from direct sunlight and extreme temperature fluctuations to prevent the veneer from drying out or lifting. Dust regularly with a soft, dry cloth and occasionally treat the surface with a quality beeswax polish, avoiding synthetic silicone sprays.
