Strictly Vetted Dealers

Every single antique dealer on our platform is individually approved by our internal team. We verify their professional trade history, ethical standards, and photographic quality to ensure a secure, high-standard buying environment. Upon joining, every dealer agrees to a strict 9-point code of conduct. While issues can occasionally arise, our dealers typically resolve them swiftly and directly with the buyer. In fact, since our founding in 2002, Sellingantiques has only had to step in to help resolve an issue on roughly five occasions—a true testament to the quality of our dealers and their dedication to your happiness.

Secure Transit

FAQs

A Georgian corner washstand is a triangular or curved piece of furniture designed specifically to fit into the corner of a bedroom during the 18th and early 19th centuries, originally used to hold a basin, jug, and personal washing accessories before plumbed bathrooms existed.

These pieces were typically constructed from dense hardwoods such as mahogany or oak, featuring dovetail joinery in the drawers, turned brass handles or knobs, and often incorporated fine stringing or veneer work characteristic of the period.

Authentic pieces exhibit period-correct construction methods, such as hand-cut dovetails, timber shrinkage appropriate to the age, hand-turned brass hardware, and secondary softwoods used for drawer linings and internal framing.

In a contemporary setting, a corner washstand serves as an ideal accent piece in a bathroom, hallway, or bedroom, functioning effectively as a plant stand, display surface, or unique storage unit that adds historical character to the room.

Maintain antique mahogany by keeping it away from direct sunlight and heat sources to prevent timber splitting, dusting regularly with a dry cloth, and occasionally applying traditional beeswax to nourish and protect the polished surface.
