The centre of the Charger painted with a scene of flowers in full bloom, over which an exotic bird flies.

A Delft charger is a large, shallow, decorative tin-glazed earthenware plate created in or around Delft, Netherlands, during the 18th century. These pieces traditionally feature hand-painted decorations, predominantly in cobalt blue oxides over an opaque white glaze base.

Dutch Delftware is constructed from a refined earthenware clay body that is fired, coated with a tin-based white glaze, painted by hand with metallic oxides, and fired a second time to set the brilliant colours and protective surface finish.

Authentic 18th-century Delftware typically exhibits minor glaze flaws, pinholes, or rim wear where the reddish or buff earthenware body shows through the white tin glaze. The reverse often shows maker marks, lead glaze coats, or distinctive foot rim wiring holes used during original kiln firings.

An antique Delft charger can be mounted on a wall using a secure plate hanger above a sideboard, arranged within a traditional plate wall display, or positioned upright on a wooden plate stand on a mantelpiece or shelf.
