Imari porcelain is a style of Japanese export ceramic originating from the Arita region and named after the port of Imari. It is defined by its characteristic colour palette featuring underglaze cobalt blue, overglaze iron red, and gilt highlights depicting intricate floral, panelled, or geometric designs.

Imari ceramics are crafted from kaolin clay, fired at high temperatures to achieve a hard porcelain body. The initial blue decoration is applied in cobalt oxide under a clear glaze, after which enamel pigments including iron red and gold leaf detailing are applied over the glaze during subsequent lower-temperature firings.
