Imari porcelain refers to Japanese porcelain made in the Arita region and exported from the port of Imari. It is celebrated for its distinctive colour palette, combining underglaze cobalt blue with overglaze iron-red and gilded ornamentation in floral or geometric panels.

Traditional Imari pieces are crafted from kaolin clay, fired initially at high temperatures with underglaze blue cobalt decoration. Overglaze enamels, such as iron-red and gold embellishments, are subsequently applied and fired a second time at a lower temperature to fix the pigments.
