Imari porcelain is a distinct style of Japanese ceramic export ware originally produced around the town of Arita and shipped through the port of Imari. It traditionally features underglaze cobalt blue combined with overglaze iron red, gilding, and detailed floral or avian panels.

Traditional Imari ceramic pieces are formed from kaolin clay and fired at high temperatures to produce a hard, vitrified porcelain body. Decorative designs are applied using cobalt blue underglaze before secondary firings seal overglaze enamels and gilded highlights.
